I was flipping through my Rochester Yellow Pages earlier today, which is something I have not done in years. Since the rise of the internet and search engines, I have found all the information I needed online by conducting a quick search specific to what I am looking for. But, thumbing through the pages bearing the Marketplace mall rochester, the Rochester Business Alliance, Rochester Direct, and Wegmans Rochester locations, I was hit with a wave of nostalgia.
As I looked at the listings for all Wegmans rochester grocery stores, it got me to thinking about how I have not yet been to the new Wegmans Rochester location on East Ave. The store opened up in late May, and it generated quite a bit of hype in the community of Rochesters East side.
On the early morning grand opening of the new Wegmans Rochester location, there were some 300 people waiting in line to be one of the first customers of the grocery store with a phenomenal following. Some of these people even camped out the night before like extreme Harry Potter fans have before a new release.
So, what did I do when I set the Yellow Pages down? I finally went to the new Wegmans, once and for all. I usually go to the manor sized Pittsford location, so I walked into the sliding glass doors with pretty high standards. But, I must say, I was pretty impressed. I am rarely every unimpressed with Wegmans. I especially enjoyed the way they chose to layout the store.
The Pittsford Wegmans can be rather overwhelmingly large and confusing at times. I sometimes joke with my friends that it reminds me of David Bowies, “The Labyrinth,” but the new Wegmans Rochester location was appropriately large. Not so big you could get lost, but not so small you are disappointed. Danny Wegman seems to have finally found his Goldilocks equation, because the new Wegmans Rochester location is just right.
